WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?

Explore the stunning coral reefs in the Gulf of Thailand, learning to dive in this incredible setting. Professional PADI dive training is available for diving enthusiasts of all skill levels, so whether you’re looking to kick-start a career in scuba diving, or earn a more basic dive qualification; this project will open up a world of underwater adventure and excitement. Ranging from the Open Water to the Dive Master Qualification, through an assortment of theoretical and practical lessons, you’ll earn an accredited and globally recognised PADI certification that will allow you to scuba dive at beautiful locations around the world.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

Our professional instructors will give you a thorough understanding of everything scuba related! You’ll participate in a variety of theory lessons and practical diving sessions to help you achieve your qualification. During the mornings and day times you’ll be learning all there is to know about scuba diving, leaving the evenings free to relax with your fellow divers on the beautiful moonlit beaches of Koh Tao.

Please be aware that you should not fly for a minimum of 24 hours following a diving session, so take this into consideration when booking your flights home. Additionally, we recommend checking with your doctor prior to departure to this project, as some medical conditions can prevent you from diving safely, namely; pregnancy, flu, heart and/or lung condition(s), diabetes, asthma, and epilepsy, whilst it is also advised you have a good level of fitness and confidence in open water (being able to swim for roughly 200 metres, float or tread water for about 10 minutes, and feel comfortable in water for long periods is a sufficient standard), so make sure you get the green light from your doctor so you can dive safely and enjoyably!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

The project is located on the serene island of Koh Tao off the east coast of mainland Thailand. You could fly into either Koh Samui or Surat Thani airport and then make your own way to the island using the regular ferry where you will be met upon arrival at the island pier by our dive crew. We will provide you with easy to follow instructions prior to your departure to enable you to plan your journey.  Upon arrival at the main island pier you will be met by a friendly Frontier representative and taken to the project.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

Whilst participating in this project you will be staying in a simple room at a little family run resort right by the beach in the south of the island, a few minutes walk from the dive school. Local amenities, bars and restaurants are within walking distance from the resort which is surrounded by tranquil gardens making it the perfect place to relax after a fun day of diving.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

Food is not provided as part of this programme. Catering for yourself is a fun element of travelling away from home as it gives you that added freedom and is a good opportunity to bond with fellow travellers while exploring local restaurants and market stalls! About $6.50 per day should be sufficient for basic diets but make sure you take a bit extra for treats and luxuries!  All meals are based on fresh produce that is purchased from the local area.  Enjoy fragrant Thai specialities, such as mild coconut curries, fragrant steamed rice, or dumplings.  Enjoy your meals alongside your fellow volunteers in the comfort of your peaceful surroundings.

Flights

Flights are not included in our project costs. However, Frontier have partnered with an experienced and professional team of travel experts to help our volunteers find the best flight deals for their trips with Frontier. This travel specialist operates in the tailor-made, long haul multi-stop travel market, arranging complex airfares and transfers for independent travellers. They provide expertise, security and a vast product range along with a Travel Butler service which is a single point of contact and support whilst you are overseas.

We recommend that you obtain a quote using the following contact details rather than book online, as our partner will offer you the most competitive fares. To receive your quote or to seek any advice for your flights, please contact Frontier’s dedicated team of travel experts on 0800 082 9994 (UK) or +44 800 082 9994 (US) or email frontier@flightcentre.co.uk.

Visas

For fast, efficient and up-to-date visa advice please contact our recommended visa consultancy partner:

Depending on your destination country and your country of origin, you might require a visa. Please see the appropriate country consular website for details or contact our affiliate visa consultancy service. Please note that your visa will usually start on the date that you enter the destination country regardless of when it was issued. Please check with the relevant embassy or high commission. If you are purchasing your visa or paying entry/exit fees in-country you will probably need to pay in US Dollars. If you have any questions please consult the relevant embassy or high commission. Please check the visa information regularly, as changes often happen without warning.

Insurance

You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the project. You won't be able to go without the right travel protection so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave the UK to the day you return. It's also best to get your travel protection at the same time as paying the deposit for your project. Depending on your policy, this will cover you for any unexpected cancellations.

Click here to receive a quote and purchase Travel Protection.

If you are going to be scuba diving you should get coverage for scuba diving up to 30m, including hyperbaric therapy treatment (unlimited). You should consider obtaining insurance to cover you for any additional activities which you plan to do during, before, or after your Frontier project. We recommend that you obtain cover for your baggage and personal effects.
